The Ashes Test cricket series

The ask –
Bring to life Cricket Australia’s vision of an orchestra performing at the opening of the Ashes Series in Australia.

Overview

The aim was to create a sense of epic occasion. Along with national anthems and Elgar’s arrangement of Jerusalem (for the English team) the song chosen to represent Australia was ‘You’re The Voice’. We selected the treatment, commissioning a composer to create a classical arrangement and working with the conductor on the orchestra’s performance. And we composed a modern theme, based on the song’s instrumental elements, that played each time our team walked on field.

We also created a consistent music and audio narrative for the match, aligning the music with visual assets and on-field action.

PRODUCING MUSIC THAT EVOKED EMOTION, THE SPIRIT OF THE RIVALRY AND THE SENSE OF OCCASION.

Insight

Pre-production, rigorous planning and clear and effective communication with all stakeholders achieved the desired results. We know that risk management is essential in delivering a successful live broadcast. So in addition to pre-recording the orchestral performance, we set up a back-up synchronised playback system.

The ceremony production struck a chord with fans in the stadium and audiences around the world, and we had excellent feedback from our client and broadcasters.

ENSURING EVERY ELEMENT MATCHED THE EPIC ON-FIELD BATTLE, HERALDING A CALL TO ACTION FOR FANS.

Cricket Australia should be extremely pleased. What a class act the pre-match entertainment was with those wonderful male singers and the beautiful string orchestra.
